John Charles Bryan Barnes (born 7 November 1963) was born in Kingston, Jamaica and is a well-known football player of the 1980s and 1990s. He played for Watford and Liverpool and was a manager of Celtic.

He started playing for Watford when he was noticed by the team while he was playing as a schoolboy for non-league Sudbury Court. He was signed for Watford on 14th July 1981 for the fee of a set of kit.
On 9th June 1987 John left Watford after appearing 292 times and scoring 83 goals. He left in a deal for £900,000 to Liverpool. He was joined by England team-mate Peter Beardsley and later with John Aldridge and then Ian Rush, and they formed one of the most formidable attacking lines of Liverpool's eminent history. John made his debut for Liverpool on 15th August 1987 in the 2-1 league win over Arsenal. John’s first strike for Liverpool came a month later when Liverpool beat Oxford United 2-0.
