Artem Chigvintsev was born on 12 June 1982 at Izhevsk, Udmurt Republic, RSFSR, Soviet Union. Artem is Russian professional dancer specialising in Latin dancing.
Artem’s parents took him to dance classes from a young age. His mother loved dancing and wanted Artem to be involved with something that would keep him from hanging around on the streets.
Artem moved to the United States in 2003, and began dancing with champion ballroom dancer Giselle Peacock, who became his wife.
Artem auditioned to appear as a contestant on the first series of So You Think You Can Dance. Artem was eliminated alongside his fellow contestant Melissa Vella, and returned as a guest choreographer for season two. Artem also appeared on Dancing with the Stars and toured with the Dancing with the Stars live show.
In September 2010, Artem joined Strictly Come Dancing Series 8 as a professional dancer. He was was partnered with actress Kara Tointon.
Artem and Kara achieved good scores in the first five weeks of 30, 32, 31, 32, and 37. In week 5, they were awarded the first 10 of the series by Alesha Dixon for their paso doble. Artem and Kara went on to win the competition, beating Matt Baker and his partner Aliona Vilani into second place to be crowned series champions for 2010.
As well as dancing, Artem has been cast in various acting roles, including playing the victim of one of the Cougars in US teen soap The O.C.
Most recently, Artem performed as part of a major dance show on a worldwide tour, which gave him the opportunity to perform on Broadway as well as in the West End.
