Pasha Kovalev

Pavel (“Pasha”) Kovalev was born on 19 January 1980 in Komsomolsk-ne-Amure in Siberia. He is a professional Latin and ballroom dancer.

Pasha Kovalev started dancing at age eight. In 2001 he moved to the United States with his professional dance partner Anya Garnis and settled in Fort Lee, New Jersey. In 2008 he moved to Los Angeles.

Dancing wasn’t a career choice for Pasha in the beginning, but that changed when he realised that it was something he “can’t live without”. Pasha was a finalist on the American version of So You Think You Can Dance in 2003, as well as appearing on Burn the Floor on Broadway and in the West End.

Pasha’s professional dancing partner is former Strictly Come Dancing dancer, Katya Virshilas.

Pasha joined Series 9 in 2011. Series 10 will be his second series on Strictly Come dancing. In 2011 Pasha teamed up with Chelsee Healey. They danced their way to the finals but lost out to Harry Judd and Aliona Vilani on the last round.

Most of Pasha’s achievements have come in America, where he has been a US National Latin Finalist, and an Ohio Star Ball Finalist.

He has taught all styles of Ballroom including International Standard, American Smooth and Rhythm, but his specialty is International Latin.
