Jill Halfpenny – Champion of Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2008

Jill Halfpenny Strictly Come Dancing was back for a special festive edition which was on BBC One at 7pm. Six couples from past and present danced to get the Christmas title.

The first couple to dance was 2007 champion, Alisha Dixon and Matthew Cutler. They danced the Viennese Waltz and scored 39 out of 40 from the judges. Bruno Toniolli, said that she was a vision and it was like watching crystals of snow under a beam of sunshine. The second couple to dance was, this years finalist Lisa Snowdon and Brendon Cole. They danced the Quickstep and scored 36 from the judges. Craig Revel Horwood said that he was taken back to the roaring 20’s. Arlene Philips said, ‘You dazzled on the dance floor’.

The third couple to dance were champion of 2004, Jill Halfpenny and Darren Bennett. They danced the American Smooth and scored 39 from the judges. Len Goodman said, ‘It jingled my bells’. Phillips said, ‘Astonishing dance, brilliantly performed’. The fourth couple to dance were this year’s runner-up, Rachel Stevens and Vincent Simone. They danced the Rumba and scored 39. Philips said, ‘You’re like a mystifying goddess’. Toniolli said that Rachel and Rumba was the ultimate ‘naughty treat’.

The fifth couple to dance was Kelly Brook and Brian Fortuna. They danced the Jive and scored 39 from the judges. Goodman said, ‘It’s lovely to see you back. The highlight was when the skirt came off’. The last couple to dance was Tom Chambers and Camilla Dallerup. They danced the Foxtrot and scored 37 from the judges. Revel Horwood said, ‘It was brilliant, exciting to watch’. Goodman said that it had a comedy spirit, a bit like John Sergeant’s’.

As there were four couples tied at the top of the leader board. Head judge Len Goodman had to rank these four couples. First in the ranking was Dixon, second was Halfpenny, third was Stevens and fourth was Brook. After the votes from the audience and the judges scores were combined, the winner was announced. It was Jill Halfpenny and Darren Bennett who took the title, Champions of Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special 2008.
