– before the male celebrities take to the floor with their dance partners to show off their newly acquired foot work. One of the men will be voted off tomorrow night.
Next week, it will be the turn of the female contenders to trip the light fantastic.
The Co Down presenter has been paired up with Matthew Cutler, who won last year’s show with pop star Alesha Dixon.
Speaking ahead of the opening show tonight Christine admitted she was nervous, but said she was just going to go out and enjoy it.
“I can’t tell you how excited I am,” she said.
“I’ve got lucky with Matthew, he’s lovely and he’s brilliant at what he does.
“But he won last year with Alesha, who was fantastic, and I really felt that I had to apologise to him in advance when we first met, because I don’t want to let him down.”
Christine said any awkwardness between herself and Matthew had now disappeared.
“It was definitely awkward at first because you have to be intimate with someone to dance well with them. And I’m not the type of person who feels comfortable writhing up against a stranger,” she said.
“But dancing is all about confidence. You really have to learn to let yourself go.”
The 28-year-old said she had been buoyed by the support she had received from complete strangers, as well as from family and friends.
“People have been so nice, stopping me at the airport and wishing me luck. It’s lovely to know they’re behind me, because at the end of the day, I’m such a wee homebird.”
Christine will perform her first proper dance with Matthew next Saturday – a foxtrot.
“You know what, I’m just going to enjoy myself,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity and I’m going to learn to dance.
“Before now I couldn’t have told you what what a foxtrot was, now I’ll be dancing it in front of millions of people.”
Christine also laughed off the recent rumours of a romance with her One Show co-host Adrian Chiles.
“It all seems like a life-time ago now,” she said.
“There’s no point dwelling on it. To be honest, I’m just so surprised that they were that interested in me.”
Strictly Come Dancing is broadcast tonight on BBC1 at 6.10pm.
