The cha-cha-cha (also known as the cha-cha) is a style of dance which was introduced by the Cuban composer and violinist Enrique Jorrín to Cuban dance floors while playing with Orquesta América, in 1951.

Cha Cha resulted from the Mambo. In the slow Mambo tempo, there was a discrete sound in the music that people began dancing to, and called the step the "Triple" Mambo. In time it became a separate dance, known today as the Cha Cha.
