Foxtrot - Strictly Come Dancing PDF Print E-mail

The Foxtrot is a ballroom dance that takes its name from its originator, the entertainment actor Harry Fox. The basic Foxtrot rhythm is slow-slow-quick-quick. The dance was first performed in 1914, and the couple Vernon and Irene Castle, gave the dance its signature grace and style.

Foxtrot was the most popular fast dance from the late teens through to 1940's. The waltz and tango were not as popular as the foxtrot, and the foxtrot could be danced to the lindy hop records, as well.

"Rock Around the Clock" is technically the biggest-selling "Foxtrot" of all time, which sold more than 25 million copies.  The foxtrot has been split into the slow (Foxtrot) and quick (Quickstep) versions.

Foxtrot is also called Slowfox in the context of International Standard category of ballroom dances.
